McGinnis Theatre
Hello and welcome! We hope to accomplish several things with this blog site. We hope that former and current students will keep us up to date with where they are and what they’re doing. We also hope that patrons will give us feedback about shows they’ve seen and shows they want to see. The performing arts are, after all, about communication. Whether it’s feelings or ideas, we perform best when we communicate.
You’ll find links to our calendar of events, the Friends of the School of Theatre and Dance, the Playhouse and Summer Theatre season, and the School of Theatre and Dance.
For many years we’ve started our Playhouse season with a big musical. This year, we moved it to the second show slot, the one just before Thanksgiving. We’d love to hear you comments about this change. Do you like it? Do you not like it? And, why.
We’re very excited about our production of Big River, June 16-27.
It’s a great story, based on Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn, and a terrific cast. One thing that really grabs you is the music to this show. Written by Roger Miller, it is a real departure from most musicals. There are country tunes, gospel numbers, even spirituals. Theatre aficionados will enjoy this, but even someone who’s not a fan of musicals will feel very comfortable.
