Teaching with Technology Summer Workshop

Overview

The first annual Office of Faculty Excellence (OFE) Teaching with Technology Summer Workshop is offered in partnership with Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS) and ECU faculty. This five-day, 30-hour, intensive hands-on experience will provide participants the opportunity to learn about technologies they can use in teaching, time to consult with mentors about the best uses of technology in their selected course, and time to work on developing the course.  Interested faculty must complete an application which includes identification of the course (module) they want to develop and what they hope to accomplish in the workshop.

The goals of the workshop include:

  • To provide introduction to major vehicles/platforms/software for teaching online and hybrid courses (Centra, Blackboard, Moodle, Secondlife, Camtasia) – provided by ITCS and faculty experts (review of online resources and/or face-to-face instruction)
  • To introduce social media and their uses in the online/hybrid course
  • To discuss course design principles and needs of participating faculty – using syllabi, course descriptions, faculty proposal for course to be developed
  • To provide hands-on opportunity for participants to develop course structures using technologies identified and to discuss these structures with faculty/staff mentors
  • To assist participants in locating teaching resources (videos, etc.) and to develop a plan for online/hybrid course development completion.
